As part of the program "Enhancing Democracy through Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods", jointly promoted by CIPE and the Business Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (CEDCA), the "first workshop for professional certification in mediation" took place on october 3 and 4, 2002 in the city of Caracas, Venezuela.

This training session was conducted by Esq. Eugene I. Farber, Adjunct Professor of Law at Pace University School of Law; member of AAA panel of mediators and arbitrators and with over 25 years of experience in mediation and arbitration proceedings.

During this 16-hour theoretical-practical session, a group of 26 professionals received training on the appropriate way to conduct a mediation session, covering, among others, the causes of conflict, preparation for mediation, ethics and mediation and practical guidance to settle.
